Grumpy TV gourmand tastes the local fare
Another famous kitchen hand in town before Christmas was TV host Anthony Bourdain. The cooking show curmudgeon (pictured) was here to film segments for new episodes of No Reservations 3, to be aired on Discovery Travel and Living. Among the locations the grumpy gourmand visited was the pick-your-own seafood stalls of Sai Kung's Chuen Kee Restaurant, the Hong Kong-style food stalls of Mong Kok and, for something more upscale, he hung out with iconoclast foodie Alvin Leung of BO Restaurant.
'I spent two days with him,' Leung confirmed. 'He was in Shanghai before and then came down. He spent one day in my restaurant watching me cook and then we spent another half day in the dry goods stores of Sheung Wan. We got along well. He was smoking his cigarettes and I had my cigar. I think the programme will air in June or July.'
