British airways flights normal as strike averted

British Airways flights between London and Hong Kong will operate normally this week after the airline's cabin crew called off a strike. Passengers had been advised to change their bookings to other airlines following the initial cancellation of 12 flights. A spokesman for the airline in Hong Kong said yesterday passengers could either rebook on British Airways or fly with airlines to which they had changed.

new police chief makes first official beijing visit

New police commissioner Tang King-shing visits Beijing today for his first official trip to the capital since he was appointed on January 12 to take over from Dick Lee Ming-kwai, who has retired. Mr Tang will be accompanied by deputy commissioner Peter Yam Tat-wing and director of crime and security John Lee Ka-chiu.

liberal party candidate to contest by-election

Liberal Party candidate Wong Shun-loy, an accountant, declared his candidacy for the Sha Tin District Council Kam Ying constituency by-election on March 11, joining solicitor Wong Huk-kam, of The Frontier, in contesting a seat vacated by Wong Kwok-hung after he was convicted of corruption charges in late 2005.
