Wonder Gump

Director Barbara Wong Chun-chun (right) has announced her new film will be called Wonder Woman. No, it is not based on the American comic book character. Instead, she explained it will be more like a female version of Forest Gump.

At a press conference on Tuesday, the director joined lead actress Gigi Leung Wing-kei as they offered details of adapting Anita Leung Fung-yee's novel about a career woman who goes through various ups and downs over the decade after the handover - from financial turmoil to losing her job, and her husband and son during the Sars crisis. 'The epic goes through 10 years' time and it will be very challenging for me,' Wong said. 'I want to put a lot more humour in so audiences won't feel as depressed when they watch it.'

Incidentally, the production company, Mandarin Films, is also shooting a 30-epsiode TV series (with different cast and crew) for the mainland market. Wong's feature film version is expected in theatres in July.
