New column to help you cope with exam fears

A lot of students have to do their homework beginning Saturday night. I think weekend homework should be abolished.

With homework scheduled for Saturday night and the whole Sunday, how can we find time to help around the house, play football or basketball, watch a movie, spend time with our family or relax?

We have other interests besides school work, so we often put it off until Sunday night. As a result, the homework is poorly done. If we don't have to do homework on weekends, we will be rested and recharged on Monday when we go back to school.

TSANG TSZ-WUN TWGHs Lui Yun Choy Memorial College Thanks for your letter, Tsz-wun. I agree that your entire weekend shouldn't be spent doing homework. I don't doubt that you do get a lot of homework over the weekend, but I wonder if your teacher intends you to dedicate your every waking moment to it.

Spending time with your family as well as getting some exercise are key to a balanced life. If you are happy and healthy, you will be in a much better position to succeed in your studies.

We will begin a new column after the Easter holidays dedicated to helping you through the exam period. Teen counsellor Jaime Simpson will give you the tools to approach homework and the exams. Look out for it on Mondays beginning April 16.
