Design an egg for charity

A local hotel has organised an Easter egg design competition to raise funds for underprivileged children on the mainland.

Organised by Island Shangri-la Hong Kong, the 'Easter Egg-xibit' competition aims to raise Hong Kong students' awareness of the plight of mainland children.

'We hope to remind the young participants that many people are less fortunate than them.

'They should show their concern for the needy during the festive season,' said Ilona Yim, director of communications at the hotel.

The competition costs HK$50 to enter.

All proceeds will go into a fund for Care for Children, a charitable organisation on the mainland which organises foster care programmes and other schemes to enrich the lives of orphans and other underprivileged children.

The competition is divided into two age groups: ages five to 10, and 11 to 15. Participants can use different kinds of material to put their creative designs onto a boiled egg.

The winning designs will be displayed on a tree in the lobby during the Easter holiday and hotel visitors can buy the eggs, with proceeds going to the charity.

Winners will be awarded dining vouchers for the hotel's Cafe TOO and an assortment of chocolate bunnies, eggs and chickens.

Participants should hand in their designs with their name, age and telephone number to the hotel's concierge/reception counter at Pacific Place, Supreme Court Road, Central on or before next Thursday.
