Hysterectomy patient felt no pain after operation

The first patient to benefit from the da Vinci S Surgical System had a hysterectomy on March 5. She said she felt no pain after the procedure and was glad to put the experience behind her.

Her doctor, Yuen Pong-mo, told her of the advantages of da Vinci S Robotic Surgical System. He made four small incisions to carry out the hysterectomy.

She stayed in hospital for three days and was discharged on March 8.

'The operation took 75 minutes,' said Dr Yuen. 'She was well enough to go home after two days and was walking around, but she wanted to stay for another day.

'The time of the operation was comparable with that of open and conventional laparoscopic surgery. In fact it was slightly faster.

'The patient should recover fully within three to four weeks.'
