Major cadre training drive to be launched

The mainland will launch a large-scale training programme for cadres after the 17th Communist Party Congress this autumn, Vice-President Zeng Qinghong has said.

During a visit on Saturday to a training school in Jinggangshan, Jiangxi province, Mr Zeng said a large-scale training exercise aimed at 'significantly' improving the quality of cadres would begin after the congress.

Mr Zeng, a key player in the party's personnel affairs, said the campaign aimed to improve the quality and lineup of senior and middle-ranking cadres and instructors should prepare themselves for the training exercise due to start next year.

According to a 2006-2010 cadre training blueprint released in January, the Communist Party plans to train 500 provincial officials, 8,800 department directors and 100,000 county-level officials every year.

These officials will be sent to the Central Party School, the China National School of Administration, and three major cadre training schools in Shanghai, Jinggangshan and Yanan, in Shaanxi province .
