Many people access the internet every day, but some are addicts. If we spend too much time online, we suffer physically, mentally and socially.
We might feel dizzy from lack of sleep, and, if we skip meals, we won't get enough nutrients. We might also be affected by radiation from our computer monitor and our eyesight would be damaged.
We might not exercise and might become nervous and agitated. Our schoolwork might also suffer. Family relationships and friendships might be put under strain.
Surfing the Net is fine, but we shouldn't be excessive about it.
Thanks for your letter, Tinny. The internet is incredible, it really has revolutionised the way we work, play and live. I rely so much on the Net - as a research tool at work, to plan holidays, to shop and keep in touch with friends. I can't imagine life without it.
It can be tempting to stay online for hours - indeed, time seems to slip by when you're on YouTube! But like everything else, we should not use the Net to excess.
It's so easy to waste time online that there's now a term for it - wilfing (an acronym for 'what was I looking for'). If you find yourself wilfing, set yourself a time limit of say one hour and make sure you get off the Net when the hour is up.
