Phone call revisited

Benjamin Yu asked Mrs Law if she had asked Professor Magdalena Mok to fire then-lecturer Ip Kin-yuen in a phone conversation

Mr Yu: 'Would you accept the possibility that you have used the word 'fire', although it might not have been your intention?'

Mrs Law: 'I would rather not. It's because it was highly improbable.'

Mr Yu: 'It was not a rational thing to do. But that was what you did?'

Mrs Law: 'That was your reconstruction ... I did not in all seriousness order her to fire Mr Ip.'

Mr Yu asked Mrs Law why Magdalena Mok would fabricate evidence against her. Mrs Law said she had her own theory.

Mrs Law: 'I don't want to use the theory against my classmate.'

Mr Yu: 'Obviously, if there is any substance to your theory, your counsel would have put that to Professor Mok.'

Mr Yu questions Mrs Law on the allegation she told an HKIEd staff member that it had no future.

Mrs Law: 'I don't think the HKIEd has no future, that's not true. In fact, I think by then HKIEd has already signed a deep collaboration agreement with Chinese University and if they move along that path there's a very good future and I already said even in October 2002 when I met with Professor Morris that I thought HKIEd could well develop into a centre of excellence in teaching and learning.'
