Keeping abreast of the smart set or just a clever marketing tactic?

There's sexy and happening. And then there's cheap and crass. Guess it depends who you're trying to attract, particularly if your main guest is Japanese television presenter and erotic model Yoko Matsugane.

While the male celebs seemed to have no problem with Matsugane's overflowing cleavage, the female guests weren't sure where to look and one we talked to just hid in a corner.

This was the scene at the opening of fashion label DITA on Thursday evening. Loads of local stars turned up, including Soler's Dino and Julio Acconci, Edmond Leung Hon-man, Candy Lo Hau-yam, Grace Ip Pui-man, Eric Kwok Wai-leung, Sam Lee Chan-sum and Jaycee Chan Cho-ming (pictured with Matsugane).

Singer Alex Fong Lik-sun took the opportunity to get up close and had a chat with the Japanese artist, opening the conversation with: 'Did you know my first girlfriend was a Japanese girl?' Fong was careful not to sneak any peeks. 'I am wearing a pair of [light coloured] shades today but the reporters can still see which way I'm looking. Next time, I will wear a darker pair.' Oh, he's quite the lad, isn't he? Bless.

Canto-pop rock singer Kary Ng Yu-fei was less impressed. She refused to be photographed with Matsugane and retired to a safe corner to view the clothes.

Smart marketing tactic? Well, it got lots of attention. But we say no thanks for the mammaries.
