Gigantic Formula (TV)

It's world-wide mecha duels as countries battle for the right to rule the world in new anime Gigantic Formula currently on Japanese airwaves.

This is an original anime by Hidefumi Kimura who has worked as a creative designer, mecha designer and screenplay writer on a number of shows including Full Metal Panic, Kiddy Grade and Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi.

Undertaking the production is Brains Base, who brought Go Nagai's MazinKaiser, Ouran High School Host Club and Innocent Venus to our screens.

The story takes place in 2035, 23 years after a cataclysmic event that nearly destroys the world. The United Nations unilaterally declares a world war would be a wise move, hence the name World's Wisest War.

The climate change that struck Earth in 2012, known as the Equatorial Winter, was believed to have wiped out most of the human race.

The countries that survived the threat of extinction decided to establish a new unified world government. The idea of a great war comes as nations decide to find out which countries are strongest.

And so they propose to hold duels between giant robots called Gigantics, believing this move will eventually unify the world.

Twelve nations will battle it out in one-on-one duels in order to see which country will be the leader of the world.

Each of these nations has its own unique Gigantic, each powered by one of twelve ancient stone sculptures of a Greek god's head.

Japan's hopes lie with their Gigantic, Susanno, and its pilots Mana Kamishiro and Shingo Suwa.
