The fisheries department is examining how a finless porpoise died after its carcass was found yesterday in Middle Bay, near Repulse Bay. The 1.8-metre-long creature, academically known as Neophocaena phocaenoides, was spotted near a shark net yesterday morning and a lifeguard dragged it ashore. An Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department spokesman said it was too decayed to tell the cause of death. He said experts from Ocean Park had been called to take samples. The species is commonly seen in the region.
