Accused 'set up Munce bet'

A senior anti-graft officer told the District Court yesterday that a man accused of offering rewards to Christopher Munce (pictured) for horse-racing tips asked him to place a HK$50,000 bet for the Australian jockey when he was working undercover on June 22. Fung Hok-Cheung, 46, has pleaded not guilty. Munce was jailed in March for 30 months for trading tips in return for the placement of bets, from which he netted nearly HK$1 million. His appeal hearing is pending. Fung's co-accused, Leung Shu-kan, 54, also pleaded not guilty this week.
