Sampan fisherman drowns

Rescuers looking for a 47-year-old man found his body floating off Ha Pak Nai, Tuen Mun, at about 12.50pm yesterday. The man had disappeared after a sampan on which he and his two friends were fishing capsized. The search involved marine police launches, fireboats and a Government Flying Service helicopter. Police said their investigation had uncovered nothing suspicious.

Bar patrons caught in gang fight

Two customers at a karaoke lounge in King's Road in North Point were assaulted in a fight between two gangs. The two gangs, involving nine men, started brawling at about 2.30am using chairs and brooms. Two male clients, aged 23, were caught up in the fracas and beaten. They needed treatment for facial injuries. Police arrested the nine men, including a mainlander.

Raids net 19 illegal workers

Police and labour inspectors arrested 19 suspected illegal workers and nine employers over the past two days. The joint operation was carried out in 25 locations, including shops, restaurants, building sites and foot massage parlours. Most of the detainees were mainlanders.

Elderly guard collapses and dies

An 80-year-old watchman collapsed at a games centre and died in hospital. Firemen broke into the premises on Sai Yeung Choi Street South in Mong Kok after a passer-by spotted him unconscious inside.

Help sought over fatal accident

Police want information about an accident in which a boy, 12, died after being hit by a school minibus in Hung Hom on Tuesday. The Form One student was hit at the corner of Ma Tau Wai and Ma Hang Chung roads at 4.40pm. He died in hospital that night. Anyone with information can call police on 2773 5262 or 2773 5220.
