Mainlander held for headbutt
An illegal immigrant from the mainland headbutted a policeman in an apparent attempt to resist arrest in Lok Ma Chau yesterday. The man, 29, and another illegal mainlander, 38, were found hiding in bushes in Ma Tso Lung at 12.40am. He was overpowered after attacking the constable. Both men were treated for minor injuries. The mainlanders were being questioned.
Couple in suicide bid saved
A couple were rescued after swallowing sleeping pills and burning charcoal in a village house in Hang Mei Tsuen, Ping Ha Road, Yuen Long, at 1.25am. A friend dialled 999 after no one answered the door but the couple opened it when emergency crews arrived. The man, 47, and his girlfriend, 44, were in stable condition.
Brawler arrested over spade
A man carrying a spade was arrested when police were called to a brawl between two gangs at the corner of Nathan Road and Kansu Street in Yau Ma Tei. The 24-year-old told police he picked up the spade on the street and used it to defend himself as he and his friends were attacked at 4.45am.
Man held for keeping poultry
A man was arrested at Kwu Tung, Sheung Shui, for allegedly keeping about 5,200 chickens without a licence. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said it had humanely put down the birds after taking samples for testing.
Gambler arrested in internet cafe
A restaurant worker, 44, was arrested after being found gambling on an online casino in a cybercafe in Tung Choi Street, Mong Kok at 12.25am. A police officer said a tip-off led to the arrest. Police said he was likely to be released on bail pending further investigation.
No one won the first prize in last night's draw. The numbers were 6, 11, 13, 28, 40 and 41. The extra number was 49. Two tickets each won the second prize of HK$653,250. Third prize paid HK$60,065.
