Disney sues D Land over name

Disney has begun a court case against a local travel company that it says is preying on its brand. The entertainment giant is seeking an injunction in the Court of First Instance against D Land Travel and its director Mak Wai-yin. Disney initiated its action against D Land, whose Chinese name is virtually identical to the US company's, in 2001, two years after the travel company was first incorporated. D Land contends that it is in a separate market from Disney, which argues that its hotels, theme parks and related businesses sit firmly within the tourism realm. The hearing is scheduled to last for 20 days.
