Canned meat under investigation

Food safety officers have been taking samples of Maling brand luncheon meat for tests after reports that a banned antibiotic was found in a consignment of the Shanghai-made product imported into Singapore. The city state reportedly has suspended all canned pork imports from the company, Shanghai Maling Aquarius, since August, but health minister York Chow Yat-ngok said yesterday there was no need to rush to ban or recall the product in Hong Kong until more information was available.
