Ex-MTR official in court

Former MTR Corporation legal manager Teresa Cheung Chi-ying, 51, appeared in Kwun Tong Court yesterday charged with one count of misconduct in public office. She is alleged to have engaged her brother's consultancy business, Global Consulting, to perform work for the MTR Corp without declaring a conflict of interest. Cheung, now unemployed, was released on HK$20,000 bail and the case was adjourned to March 25 to be heard in Wan Chai District Court.

Fourth man carries superbug

A man was diagnosed as being a carrier of Vancomycin-resistant enterococci on February 27, the fourth case diagnosed in an orthopaedic ward of Tuen Mun Hospital. The four male patients, 77 to 79, were in stable condition and had no signs of infection, the Hospital Authority said. Vancomycin is an antibiotic used to treat enterococci infections.

Dead robin sparks bird flu scare

An oriental magpie robin suspected to have died from bird flu prompted the fisheries department to clean out the Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve. The bird was found on Friday near the management centre and the department organised a chicken farm within 3km to check its birds. All were cleared. An oriental magpie robin found dead on February 10 at Cheung Sha Wan market was infected with H5N1.

Driver flees after officer hurt

The driver of a taxi with a bogus number plate fled after braking suddenly so a pursuing motorcycle policeman would crash into his car. The officer fell off his motorcycle, injuring his arms and legs, when he hit the taxi on the Connaught Road Central flyover outside the Rumsey Street multi-storey car park.

Appeal over missing man

Police appealed for help finding Tang Chi-yuen, 27, who went missing from his Sai Ying Pun home on Monday. Mr Tang is about 1.8 metres tall and was wearing a black long-sleeved shirt with white horizontal stripes. Anyone with information can call 2860 1040.

Bus driver, 7 passengers hurt

A bus driver and seven passengers were slightly injured when their bus hit a parked truck in Tsing Yi.

53-year-old dies in forklift fall

A 53-year-old man died after falling from a forklift at an industrial building in Tuen Mun.
