On the rocks

A HK$7 million marine police boat equipped with the latest navigation system lies on rocks on the shore of Grass Island, or Tap Mun, yesterday. The patrol launch PL 44 hit a reef in waters near Hau Tsz Kok, to the west of the island, at 7.05am and started taking on water. Fearing it would sink, the pilot ran the 13-metre launch onto the shore of Grass Island, in Sai Kung. The boat was still stranded there last night. The four people on board were not hurt. The accident happened in low visibility. Two vessels from the Fire Services Department and three from the marine police went to the scene.
