Instead of Japanese manga and martial arts anime, the city's favourite comic read was once a strip called Old Master Q by Alfonso Wong Kar-Hei.
The classic character is still being published now by his eldest son, Joseph Wong Chak (second from right).
In an attempt to refresh the character, Wong has invited four Hong Kong artists to collaborate for a new series of comics collectively titled 4+5 Polar Adventure.
Published earlier this month, Old Master - Vol. 95 features storylines and drawings by (left) Ultraman, Danny Chan, Husky Kevin, and Winson Ma (not pictured), all dealing with the timely green issue of environmentalism. 4+5 also refers to this year being Old Master Q's 45th anniversary.
The new collaborators introduce four new characters to the adventures of Master Q and his sidekick, Big Potato, as they try to save the world from global warming. 'Hong Kong's comic and cartoon artists are now internationally renowned and very respected. I want to learn some new creative ideas from them,' the Taiwan-based Wong said.
'However, Master Q doesn't change. He is still himself and will keep bringing readers joy and smiles.'
To kick off the new Master Q, Joseph Wong will be at Harbour City on Sunday for a launch ceremony and display of original works at LCX. For true fans, there will also be an autograph session starting at 3pm.
