Pets deserve a happy life
'To keep a pet or not?' Many people are faced with this dilemma.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has urged the public to think carefully before they buy a pet.
Why do people want to keep pets? What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a pet?
The animals provide comfort for lonely people, especially the elderly.
Keeping pets can also help children to be more patient, responsible, kind and caring.
But there are disadvantages. The animals can give off a bad smell, while the owners have to spend a lot of money when their pets fall ill.
It is also time-consuming. We need to clean their 'house', buy them food, and take them out for a walk (especially dogs).
And we need to find friends to take care of our pets when we go on holiday.
When we decide to keep a pet, we must do all we can to ensure their safety and good health.
Like human beings, they deserve freedom and happiness.

More and more teenage girls in Hong Kong are becoming pregnant nowadays.
Some have abortions while others choose to give birth. In some cases, the girls try to get rid of the baby, with fatal consequences for the infant.
Teenage pregnancies could become a serious problem unless we take action now.
Schools can organise more talks on sex education in order to raise students' awareness about the topic.
Parents, too, have an important role to play. Children may get the wrong concept about sex through the mass media. There are plenty of pornographic websites, films and magazines aimed at young people these days.
Therefore, parents have to teach their children about morality and decent behaviour.
We have to provide teenagers a better understanding of sex so that they act responsibly in future.

No longer 'super'
People like shopping at supermarkets because they offer a wide variety of goods. Also, they are attracted by the slogan 'Best value for money'.
However, a recent survey has revealed that the prices at supermarkets are higher than in grocery shops.
Some items cost three times more at supermarkets, the findings showed.
Most people know that supermarkets can put a dent in your wallet, but they still shop there because it is convenient and clean.
High prices are bound to have an adverse effect on our daily lives. I think supermarkets should reduce their prices immediately.

We work very hard because we know that knowledge can get us far and help achieve our dreams.
My dream is to have a perfect family. I want to have a good relationship with them and make them feel comfortable.
It seems such a simple thing; some people may say that it is not a real target.
No matter what others think, my family is the most important thing in the world.
Please remember that your dreams will not come true if you try to evade difficulties. I sincerely hope that all the students who study very hard for their HKCEE and A-Levels can achieve their goals.
HK offers top university education
Many parents want their children to study abroad to ensure a brighter future. But most of my friends don't want to leave the city.
So why don't parents consider universities in Hong Kong?
Harvard, Cambridge and Oxford are the world's top three universities, according to a survey.
The University of Hong Kong has moved up to 18th place this year after being ranked 33 in 2007.
Moreover, the Chinese University of Hong Kong - which was ranked 38th - occupies a higher position than the University of Toronto and Boston University.
Why go abroad when Hong Kong has one of the best university education systems in the world?

'If you have money, you can do anything you like.' Many people agree with this statement, but I don't.
Money can't help solve all our problems. Some parents like to spend a lot of money on their children's education. But it won't guarantee success. The children have to work hard to succeed.
Also, if the parents want their children to be happy, it is important for the two parties to have more communication.
I am very happy that my parents and my brother always talk to me after dinner. We share what happens every day, including some very interesting incidents.
I hope every family can get together for at least five minutes every day.

There's always hope
We have to 'create' hope. Some people believe that life is hopeless so they easily give up.
If you want to get a good result, why don't you try your best and see what happens?
Otherwise, you won't achieve anything. So work hard and never give up.
