Institute an answer to testing questions

Students planning to study in the United States must first pass an English language test to assess their standards.

The Princeton Review Hong Kong helps students to prepare for these exams. Associate director Benedict Yeung answers questions about its services.

The Princeton Review offers a series of English test preparatory courses for A-level graduates who wish to study overseas. What are these courses and how do your instructors help them achieve satisfactory results? The test preparatory courses we provide are SAT, SAT II (tested subjects include maths, physics, chemistry and biology), TOEFL iBT, SSAT, SMART, and one-on-one private tutorials. Our tutors are trained professionals who know through personal experience what it takes to succeed. They are willing to go the extra mile to ensure that students receive instruction that is not only tailored to their needs, but is also interesting and fun.

For example, candidates sitting for SAT need a high score to enter their top-choice schools. That's why we have the most effective and up-to-date SAT course available. Also, with limited class sizes, students can be assured that they will receive the personal attention that they need to succeed. In addition, their work is set at a pace that's right for them.

What kind of services are available to help Form Seven school-leavers to apply to study at a United States college or university? Students are probably aware that applying to study at a US college often requires difficult and complicated procedures. Applicants need to take standardised exams and prepare a comprehensive application.

We provide one-on-one admissions counselling, advice and guidance for students based on the number of schools to which they are applying.

We also have college application workshops for students who want to understand the US college admissions process better. To have a better understanding of our counselling service, students have the option of signing up for one free hour with our counsellor to discuss their interest in US colleges and to see if the service is right for them.

When is the best time to apply to study at a US college or university? The best time would be in grade 12 or equivalent - at the age of 17. Most students apply during summer as this is the perfect time for them to prepare for a test and conduct preliminary research on different colleges and universities in the US.

How does the Princeton Review help individual students who need specific training in their learning? We offer private tutorials to students who require more personal attention and have specific needs.

Our one-on-one tutorials can tailor instructions according to students' needs by working together from their schedules, placing greater focus on their weak topics and enhancing their strong topics.

How do you compare the Princeton Review's education services with other similar education centres in Hong Kong? In 1981, the Princeton Review founder John Katzman sat down with 15 high school students to help them prepare for the SAT.

Now, more than 20 years later, our centres can be found across 13 countries, and help millions of students worldwide to prepare for standardised admissions tests to gain entry into some of the most prestigious educational institutions in the US. We have developed test-taking strategies proven to help students improve their scores.

Instructors must complete a comprehensive in-house training programme and master the contents of our tests and techniques.

What are the qualifications of the Princeton Review instructors? How experienced are they in tutorial teaching? Our instructors are selected for their high qualifications, academic results, personality, skills and ability.

Excellent instructors lead by example, so all our instructors are also excellent students. Our instructors have scored in the top percentiles of the test.
