Causeway Bay club fined for serving meals to non-members

A clubhouse operator and a company that had been operating with a Certificate of Compliance in Causeway Bay were yesterday fined HK$2,000 and HK$2,500 respectively for contravening the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance. Eastern Court heard that a clubhouse in Foo Ming Street had been operating with a Certificate of Compliance under the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance since June last year. The Office of the Licensing Authority of the Home Affairs Department found that the clubhouse served non-members in early December last year and subsequently issued a warning letter to the club. In late December last year, an officer of the Licensing Authority, posing as a customer, patronised the clubhouse for food and drink without being asked to show his membership status or invited to become a member.

Arson suspected in van fire

Police suspect arson in a case where a light goods vehicle was set ablaze in Lok Wo Sha Lane, Ma On Shan, shortly before 4am.

Teen jumps in river during row

A 17-year-old girl jumped into a river at Yeung Uk Tsuen in Castle Peak Road, Yuen Long, at 6am during a dispute with her 33-year-old boyfriend. The man and a passer-by rescued the girl, who was admitted to Pok Oi Hospital.

Bag snatcher arrested

A 16-year-old girl stole a bag from a 34-year-old woman and threatened her with a knife in Tung Lok Street on Long Ping Estate, Yuen Long, at about 3am. The victim chased the teen and grabbed her bag back. Police arrested the girl in Long Ping Road for attempted robbery.

No one won the first prize in last night's draw. The numbers were 9, 17, 19, 24, 38 and 47. The extra number was 3. Three tickets each won second prize of HK$669,535. Third prize paid HK$42,850.
