THIRTEEN seamen on board a boat which ran aground on a reef 250 kilometres southeast of Hong Kong were rescued by the Royal Navy yesterday.
The men were last night taken to Stonecutters Island on board the HMS Plover.
The crew of 12 Indonesians and one Singaporean were on their way to Taiwan when the Honduran-registered Blue Fin encountered problems and ran aground on a reef off Pratas Island on Saturday.
The Marine Department's Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre received an SOS call at about 10 am on Saturday. But rough seas prevented local rescue crafts from reaching the victims.
A Kingair aircraft from the centre found the 13 men stranded on the reef.
The HMS Plover reached the tired but otherwise uninjured men early yesterday.
