Kate's a pro on and off the course

Sometimes people behind the scenes know their sport as well as the players. Fitting this bill is Kate Burton, who is working for Brand Rapport, the company charged with handling the PR for UBS during the event.

Burton is a former Hong Kong and England international golfer, who used to play off a handicap of plus one. 'My handicap is a bit shabby these days,' says modest Kate. 'I play off a two, as I'm too busy helping other people promote their game. My work in Asia involves commentary for the LPGA, as well as doing live player interviews for TV. This week, I am wearing a different hat in the corporate role of helping with the PR and conducting player interviews at client hospitality events,' adds Kate, a former RTHK presenter who now lives in Singapore.

'Nick Faldo has a great sense of humour, which he also brings to his work as a commentator in the US,' adds Kate. 'I like his swing and could watch it all day. His discipline, determination and work ethic laid down the gauntlet for a whole new generation of British players. I am convinced this is why there are so many successful British golfers today.'

The fact that Kate is five months pregnant doesn't seem to have slowed her down. 'My red-blooded Australian husband, 'Ash' [who runs pro golf events in Asia], gets upset that he's still being beaten at golf by an Englishwoman. I give him nine shots when we play and I still beat him off the same tee.'
