In Hong Kong on Wednesday night, there was chaos at the airport when taxi drivers blockaded the road. The wild-cat strike was sparked by a security guard sending a customer to an urban taxi instead of a New Territories cab. The new taxi fare structure makes longer trips cheaper by urban taxis.
Taxis blocked all three Kowloon-bound lanes of the North Lantau Highway from 10pm. Their action held up passengers returning home from the airport, some of whom had just managed to get out of the chaos in Bangkok. Twenty-four people were arrested and police had to resort to breaking car windows to move the taxis.
