Police chief warns taxi drivers
Police Commissioner Tang King-shing yesterday warned taxi drivers about illegal protests against the new fare structure. The warning followed reports that hundreds of taxi drivers were planning to block major highways and tunnels last night. Taxi associations denied there were such plans. Urban Taxi Drivers Association Joint Committee chairman Kwok Chi-piu said they might act independently to scrap the new fare system.
Civic Party makes district plans
The Civic Party has vowed to improve its district work by using the professional backgrounds of members to engage the people, its new leadership said. At a general meeting, the party also affirmed a '100-day plan' to create jobs and a better urban environment. Lawmaker Audrey Eu Yuet-mee was elected to another two-year term as party leader.
Shop workers in pay protest
About 20 workers protested outside the Mong Kok branches of Broadway claiming the electronic-goods retailer owed up to HK$2 million in back pay.
Last trip for KMB bus route
After 35 years, Kowloon Motor Bus closed down the money-losing Route 70 connecting Jordan to Sheung Shui. A bus made the final rounds just after midnight.
