Tsuen Wan Government Secondary School

There was creativity, team spirit and a keen sense of belonging at the school's Open Day on December 8 last year.

The visitors included more than 400 students and teachers from 13 primary schools in the area.

Their amazing journey began with the TWGSS Next Top Model, where trendy cosplay characters from 31 classes performed for the audience.

The Most Extraordinary Comic Strip Gallery included the best works of 23 classes.

With their variety of activities, the students showed learning English is fun.

All classrooms were decorated with characters from traditional Chinese fables, western fairy tales, comics, movie characters and world celebrities.

Visitors were thrilled by the students' musical performances, while the art, science and liberal studies stalls added colour to the event.

Jockey Club Government Secondary School

The school's 46th annual Sports Day was held on December 11 last year. 'Students showed great enthusiasm in their pursuit of excellence,' said principal Chan O Sui-fong.

Lam Hoi-tai, boys' champion ( Grade B), said taking part in sports helped him to relax and develop confidence. 'I have been playing sports for many years and it helps me to study more efficiently,' said Hoi-tai.

Lok Tsz-chun said he enjoyed the competition.

'I am really happy with my performance although I didn't win any prizes,' he said.

Li Ting-hin, Wong Chun-hei, Lai Ho-yi, Lim Ka-hei and Wong Shuk-man were the other champions.

Hong Kong Caritas School

One of the fund-raising activities organised by Hong Kong Caritas is the annual Caritas Bazaar.

The theme of this year's event was 'Give Them a Ray of Hope'.

Different organisations and schools set up game booths and stalls where second-hand goods were sold.

The goods included household appliances, toys, and accessories, with all the proceeds going to the needy in Hong Kong.

The social service committee of Hong Kong Caritas School helped Lai Kok House, an elderly home, set up a game stall at Fa Hui Park in Sham Shui Po.

The participants had to roll table tennis balls into paper cones. There were blue and gold cones. Blue represented good behaviour, such as respect for the elderly, a caring attitude and participation in voluntary work. Gold represented wasted opportunities.

Both the young and old were attracted to the stall.

Judging from their smiles, it was evident that they enjoyed the game a lot.

The students had to design the game stall within a short period and it proved to be a great challenge.

However, the problem-solving and communication skills they acquired during the process and the enthusiastic response of the visitors showed that the students' efforts were worthwhile.
