Compensation ruling for surgeon upheld

The Court of Final Appeal yesterday upheld a lower court's ruling that ordered anaesthetist Chan Chi-keung to pay patient Frank Yu Yu-kai damages for negligence that caused a nerve problem in the surgeon's left hand. The court ruled four to one that Dr Chan should compensate Dr Yu, who had surgery on May 26, 2001, at St Teresa's Hospital after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The amount of damages has yet to be assessed.
