Dell Inspiron Mini 10

Dell Computers has rounded out its portfolio of ultra portable laptops with the Inspiron Mini 10, which fits in between its previous 9-inch and 12-inch display models.

Like its predecessors, the Inspiron Mini 10 features pretty much everything you'd expect in models in this category, including the latest Intel Atom processor running at up to 1.6GHz, integrated graphics chips and a large hard disk drive.

With the Mini 10, you get 1GB of RAM, up to a 160GB hard drive, integrated wireless, Bluetooth and a 1.3 Mega-pixel webcam, as well as an HDMI connector to hook the machine up to your high-definition television set.

The star of the Mini 10 is its wide-screen 10-inch display, which offers you a 19:6 aspect ratio with lots of room to browse the Web.

One area that Dell paid special attention to with the Mini 10 is usability.

Despite its size, the Mini 10's keyboard is only marginally (8 per cent) smaller than conventional keyboards on standard laptops.

You also get a multi-touch track pad that takes advantage of new forms of navigation such as pinch and rotate for photos.

If the basic configuration still doesn't impress you, you can upgrade the RAM to 2GB and the hard disk drive to 250GB. At the same time, if the three-cell battery's three hour life span is not enough, you can opt for the six-cell battery, which will last six hours. Pricing for the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 starts at HK$3,600. Pros: everything you expect from a mini laptop, plus multi-touch track pad, close to full-size keyboard Cons: wireless LAN limited to version 'g'
