Warning on mercury levels in two types of beauty cream

Consumers have been urged not to use two types of cosmetic cream in which mercury content exceeds the safety standard. The Customs and Excise Department said tests showed the mercury content of 'Mui Lee Hiang - Cream for Acne & Blemishes' ranged from 4,200 parts per million to 4,300ppm. The national standard of the People's Republic of China puts the safe limit at 1ppm. Meanwhile, tests on 24 boxes of a beauty cream with no English translation, , which were seized recently from the luggage of a man in the customs arrival hall of the Hong Kong-Macau ferry terminal, found mercury contents ranging from 6,900ppm to 13,000ppm.

Minibus driver injured in attack

A minibus driver, 42, suffered cuts from flying glass fragments when two men hit his windscreen with a brick and a hammer at a minibus terminal in Clear Water Bay Road, Choi Hung, at 2.30am yesterday.

Cyclist collides with subway pillar

A 34-year-old woman was injured when her bicycle ran into a concrete pillar in a pedestrian subway outside Tung Shing House on Fu Tung Estate, Tung Chung, at about 6.30am. She was treated at Princess Margaret Hospital.

Second man arrested over killing

A second man was arrested yesterday in connection with the killing of a man at Yau Ma Tei wholesale fruit market on Wednesday. The arrest of the man, surnamed Chung, 40, followed that of a man surnamed Kwon, 48. The pair were held overnight.

Truck driver hurt in crash

A truck driver was treated at Pok Oi Hospital after his vehicle ran into the back of another truck that had stopped on the Yuen Long Highway, Yuen Long, at 3.10am.
