Post ranked as most trusted news source

The South China Morning Post has again been rated Hong Kong's most trusted media organisation.

For the second time in the Chinese University survey, the Post's score of 7.57 put it ahead of all other media organisations in the city. When it last rated top in 2006, it received a score of 7.36.

Among newspapers, the Post was followed by Ming Pao, with 7.35 points, The Standard on 7.19, and the Hong Kong Economic Times (7.12). Apple Daily was ranked 14th (5.80). The least-trusted was The Sun (5.57).

The survey, covering 17 newspapers and eight electronic sources, found overall media credibility had risen over the past three years, with a score of 6.59 from 6.41 previously. Media credibility was affected by factors such as political bias.

The April poll by the School of Journalism and Communication asked 1,034 respondents to rate the trustworthiness of the media on a 10-point scale.

RTHK scored 7.31, the highest for solely electronic media, ahead of TVB (7.30) and Commercial Radio (6.98).
