Action is needed on poisonings

I have been so upset to read about all these cases of poor mainland children getting lead poisoning or poisoning from other chemicals from factories. How can something like this happen? Does no one care?

I think the government should be ashamed that this sort of thing is happening. Why is it the government can spend so much money arresting bloggers but cannot find the time or the will to deal with the real problems the people face?

These poisonings are going to affect the victims and their families for the rest of their lives.

The unscrupulous factory owners should be made to pay and then the government should, furthermore, offer the victims of these crimes some help.

From the Editor

Thanks for your letter, Jo. It will probably be a long time before the extent of the damage from the mainland's rapid industrialisation is fully known.

In this age of information, few industrialists or officials can claim they did not know of the dangers this sort of pollution will cause.

It appears the government wants to protect economic growth at all costs. But this should never be at the expense of human lives.
