Encosta Don finally recovered from the unkindest cut of all yesterday to land his first win in a rare Class Five victory for David Hall. 'I never seem to have Class Five horses and really you do need them over a season - they are a significant part of the programme,' Hall said, after successfully returning Encosta Don (Brett Prebble) to Class Four with yesterday's victory. 'This horse has been an example of what can go wrong when you geld them. He needed gelding, his temperament for Hong Kong was wrong so it was the right thing to do, but he turned weak and soft after he was gelded last year. He is only now starting to toughen up again and his work had been very good coming into this.' Despite the rise in grade again now for Encosta Don, Hall said that some of his Class Four efforts last season suggested he will still be competitive in that grade with a light weight.
