52-year-old man is 28th in city to die with swine flu virus

A 52-year-old man who contracted swine flu and was also suffering from diabetes and hypertension died in Kwong Wah Hospital on Sunday, becoming the 28th person with the swine flu virus to have died in the city. He developed flu symptoms on September 25 and went to the hospital last Tuesday, when he was confirmed to have the virus. His death came despite treatment with Tamiflu and antibiotics. Meanwhile, two new critical cases of the virus were reported yesterday. Also, Kornhill Anglo-Chinese Kindergarten in Eastern District will close for seven days from today due to an outbreak involving 40 students, who were all in stable condition.

Film archive reels from surge in artefact donations

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department has been overwhelmed with a dramatic increase in donated artefacts. The Hong Kong Film Archive now has 990,000 donated artefacts, 80 per cent of which were given by members of the public. It had 200,000 in 2000. Despite hiring more people to help register the pieces, 36 per cent of artefacts at the archive were as yet unregistered, department director Betty Fung Ching Suk-yee said.

'Golden week' for Disneyland

Attendance at Hong Kong Disneyland increased by 7 to 9 per cent in the first four days of this month compared with the same period last year, managing director Andrew Kam Min-ho said yesterday. Thanks to the National Day 'golden week' holiday, hotels at the theme park were more than 90 per cent full. Kam said the global financial crisis had a limited impact on the park.
