Pubs pipe in St Andrew's Day

Every proud Scotsman knows today is St Andrew's Day. At least two establishments will be celebrating the patron saint of Scotland in style. Jimmy's Kitchen in Central will do its part by offering complimentary Glenlivet single malt Scotch whisky for tasting at 7pm, followed by some bagpipe-playing by Anthony Brewer and a Glenlivet-pairing dinner with Scottish smoked salmon, haggis and other dishes favoured by men wearing a kilt. The meal is HK$428 and you'll also need reservations in advance for the whisky tasting - 2526 5293. Over at The Globe pub, it will be a bitter-sweet occasion as tonight is its final night on Hollywood Road. Manager Toby Cooper (pictured) will celebrate the closing by giving out loads of stuff they're not taking away and auctioning more valuable items for charity. He's also promising happy-hour prices all night to clear out the remaining stock, plus for St Andrews Day he'll give a free drink to anyone in a kilt. It's also the last day of the moustache (also pictured) he's been growing as part of the Movember charity campaign. William Wallace would be proud. The good news is a new Globe will open on New Year's Eve on Graham Street. 'It's the old Le Tire Bouchon site, a lot bigger than our current location,' Cooper said.
