Cosmopolitan affair proves to be more of a fun event than anything fearless

Cosmopolitan magazine celebrated its 25th anniversary in Hong Kong on Thursday with a 'Fun Fearless' party at The Mira's new Whisk restaurant. Certainly most gals think Cosmo - part of the SCMP Group's magazine division - is a fun read. But fearless? Okay, maybe dating advice and fashion tips are provocative issues in Hong Kong, too. Anyway, the interesting bash found novel ways to keep its guests from just standing. A number of game booths were set up and everyone was encouraged to try to win stuffed bears and jelly beans, while other stations painted nails, pressed on fake tattoos and took Polaroids of people.

The evening culminated with the magazine's Fun Fearless awards, handed to various local entertainers. Indeed, some of the recipients seemed to have fun, too. Film personality of the year Nick Cheung Ka-fai had the word 'cosmopolitan' painted across his face. Man of the year Jan Lamb Hoi-fung arrived dressed as Charlie Chaplin. However, TV star of the year Moses Chan Ho received the night's biggest cheer - okay, screams. It seemed he was shooting around the corner at Tom Lee Music and rushed over to receive his prize. 'I was just shooting a romantic scene so perhaps I am carrying some of that feeling here,' he said, causing much swooning. Maybe the night should have been called fun and fierce.
