An annual competition is calling on young people to come up with innovative ideas using their science and engineering knowledge.
The Hong Kong Underwater Robot Challenge is scheduled to be held from April 10 to 12 at City University. The contest is in its fifth year. Participants are required to design remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and complete set tasks within a time limit to accumulate points.
In the 2010 contest, their mission is to extract samples of marine life around undersea volcanoes in a simulated environment.
Like previous years, the contest will be divided into two groups: secondary schools and university. It is the local leg of the International Remotely Operated Vehicle Competition organised by the Marine Advanced Technology Education Centre in California. Winners will have the chance to take part in the international finals to be held in Hawaii in June. Applications close on December 31.
