Grub: This small restaurant has been in Tai Hang for more than half a century. Yummy family-style dishes, plus celebrity fans draw a large crowd every day.
Vibe: A small cha chaan teng with limited indoor seats. If you're in a large group, you will have to sit outdoors, which is like going to a dai pai dong. There are lots of news articles and photos hanging on the wall, especially pictures of the cafe staff and local celebrities like Eason Chan Yik-shun.
Who to bring: Friends who enjoy casual, tasty dinners. It's also great if you want a family meal but nobody can be bothered to cook at home.
What's hot: Although the cafe is popular with the rich and famous, people go for the food, not to star-spot. The steamed pork 'mountain' with salted egg is their most famous dish.
Steamed pork cakes are a common local dish, but the chef transforms it into something extraordinary. Rather than the usual biscuit shape, it is served as a 'mountain'. Fat is added to give a rich, smooth taste, and smaller portions are available for those with small appetites.
Meat-lovers should also try the soft and meaty Thai-style fried ribs. Sweet chilli sauce makes the dish stand out from regular salt and pepper for a deliciously different treat.
If you don't want too much meat, try the steamed scallops and tofu, which are smooth and cooked to perfection, and enhanced by the perfect amount of fragrant garlic and soya beans.
What's not: Favourite hot dishes run out quickly, so make sure you show up early, otherwise you won't be left with many choices - don't expect a decent meal if you show up after 9pm.
There are not many choices on the menu in the first place, and items change according to the availability of the ingredients, so you won't always get what you wanted to order.
It's also not a particularly convenient place - whether you take the bus, MTR or tram to Causeway Bay or Tin Hau, you will have to walk a little way.
