Microsoft LifeCam HD-6000

Everything these days is going high definition, and Microsoft wants you to give you HD on your webcam.

With LifeCam HD-6000, you can turn you notebook computer or netbook running Windows XP - with Service Pack 2 or higher - into a high-definition digital camera or camcorder. While it offers 16:9 widescreen recording, the maximum resolution is actually 720p, which is not exactly the full 1,080p HD resolution of some TVs. But still, it's much better than the standard VGA quality.

The HD-6000 also features auto-focus for keeping objects clear from as close as 10.2 cm, and auto exposure for brighter and more colourful videos. You can also update the software with TrueColor technology for sharper and more realistic colour in your photos and videos.

The webcam is designed to hang on your screen, but the main camera unit rotates 180 degrees in both directions so you can actually turn it to point in any direction. There is also a 76cm cable so it can even be used as an external camera - although it needs to be connected to your computer.

The HD-6000 not only makes your image clearer when you are doing a video call with friends, but also turns your computer into a camera. Best of all, everything you capture can be uploaded directly to the Web. It sells for US$60.
