Wong's plan works to perfection

Trainer Alex Wong Yu-on made best use of Implied Volatility's light weight and gave jockey Howard Cheng Yue-tin the age old instructions to go to the front and improve his position from there. Cheng didn't mess about from barrier 14 either and strung the field out as he fired across to lead the main pack by eight lengths as he entered the straight. It was a winning strategy for the pair, with Implied Volatility falling in to win by a short head over game Silver Blaze, trained by Sean Woods, and spoil the party for departing jockey Aaron Gryder. 'The plan was always to go straight to the front and use the light weight,' Wong said. 'When I said this horse could run 1,800 metres earlier this season everyone thought I was stupid, but he's done it again today. That's four wins for the season and maybe he has another one left in him. Howard let him run today and the horse has done very well to just hold on,' he added.
