Department removes 14 metre coral tree

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department said it removed yesterday a coral tree in Wong Tai Sin that was listed on the register of old and valuable trees, to protect the public. A group of tree experts found the 14 metre tree at the San Po Kong interchange was at risk of collapsing owing to an attack by a kind of wasp, the department said. It said it had attempted remedial measures, to no avail. In 2008, a 19-year-old died when a 23 metre coral tree in Stanley fell on her.
