MO Bar

G/F Landmark Mandarin Oriental 15 Queen's Road Central Tel: 2132 0011

The vibe: Can a bar feel exclusive and accessible at the same time? MO certainly does. Massive doors swing sideways, allowing you to slip inside this Adam Tihany-designed space with its gentle dark tones.

There's space enough around the bar for small groups, and attentive staff were quick on a recent solo visit to offer a paper or magazine for company. Or perhaps it was a ploy to distract our gaze from the delicious-looking bite-sized burgers a nearby couple had plucked off a menu that lasts till 11pm. After that you can order from the hotel's room service, hence MO Bar has become a favourite late-night drop-in for those looking to refuel.

The drinks: There's music and there's food - but it's the drinks that keep people coming back. The signature splash is made for fending off Hong Kong's sticky heat. The MO-tox (HK$105) blends Belvedere Cytrus vodka, Luxardo lemoncello, coriander, ginger root, cloudy apple, pineapple and lemon.

Classic cocktails (from HK$105), wine from HK$80 per glass, and beers from HK$70 flesh out the selections, and there's also a wide range of juices, Jing teas and mocktails.

The verdict: Given its location, the shopping set have long since discovered MO Bar as a place to enjoy afternoon tea, but to soak up what the bar's really all about, wait until the sun goes down, slip in off the street, grab a cool cocktail and let the day slowly fade away.
