Dear Toni
It's my 14th birthday in a few weeks and I have no idea what to do. I'm not really into makeup and painting nails, and I plan on inviting boys to my party as well. I also can't seem to find any venues to hold a party.
The usual solution would be to watch a movie then go back home but I think that's really boring and I don't even know what films are coming out that week. Help!

Dear Nearly-Bday Girl
Most Hong Kong teens are at something of a disadvantage compared to their movie/TV counterparts - most don't have the space or opportunity to throw a party in their homes - or at least not with more than a handful of guests - and not many people have a garden.
But that doesn't mean you have to miss out. There are plenty of uniquely Hong Kong experiences that mean you can have a kick-bottom celebration.
I don't know what your budget is, so I've got a range of things here - and if you don't like any of them exactly, maybe they'll inspire you to come up with something similar!
One of my favourite party venues doesn't stay in one place for very long - you can hire a party tram from Hong Kong Tramways (hktramways.com, 2118 6301) for up to 35 people (depending on the model). You bring your own food and games, and it works out to around HK$100 per person for a couple of hours on the 'tracks' and an unusual way to see your city.
If you like the idea of a movie, you could see what's showing at the Director's Club in Cityplaza (www.uacinemas.com.hk, 3516 8811) and then enjoy the film in your own private cinema. Up to 16 people can attend, and it costs HK$175, which includes a hot dog or sandwich and unlimited popcorn and soft drinks.
If your friends are creative, book an art jam session - check out Oscary in Sheung Wan (2964 9111, find them on Facebook) who offer sessions for HK$150 during the week and HK$280 at weekends. Or go to the pioneers artjamming in Central (artjamming.com, 2541 8816).
Finally, if you're of a musical bent, or just want to make some noise, get in touch with Drum Jam (www.drum-jam.com, 2982 1846) to find out how they can bring their brilliant approach to stress relief to your party.
Happy planning!
