In Brief

Majority use credit cards for low-value transactions

Credit card usage is widespread in Hong Kong and not confined to high-ticket purchases; 55 per cent of cardholders used them for transactions of HK$200 or less, a survey commissioned by American Express. The survey, for which 512 credit card holders were interviewed, found 90 per cent were willing to use a credit card payment service that does not require their signature, but 84 per cent had not used such a service. A number of credit card companies allow users making purchases of less than HK$500 to pay without signing a credit card voucher, swiping their card through a reader or inputting their password.
