Leung's runner blows TT players away

The big upset of the card belonged to trainer Peter Ho Leung, whose Derby purchase Kharu defied the 'green light gamblers' to win at odds of almost 50-1 and decimate the great majority of Triple Trio tickets in the opening leg. Making his seventh start, Kharu slipped by unnoticed in betting from barrier 14, before producing a gutsy on-pace effort to surprise the favoured runners in the straight by kicking on dourly to the line. 'I must firstly thank the owner for his patience, he asked me to buy a Derby horse for him, but it would have been a rush to have him ready and he wasn't up to that when he first arrived,' Ho said. 'He is a nice horse, but will be at his best over further and 2,000 metres plus will not worry him. 'Today we weren't too concerned by the draw, Howard [Cheng Yue-tin] went forward and the horse was strong enough to kick right to the line.'
