In an era when Gaga and Bieber are all the rage, Scottish singer-songwriter KT Tunstall, famous for hits like Suddenly I See and Other Side Of The World, returns after a three-year break to bring grit back to the charts.
Tiger Suit is a simple yet refreshing album which reached No 5 on the UK albums chart. It features a variety of styles, from rock and pop to what Tunstall calls 'nature techno', so there's something for everyone.
Opening track Uummannaq Song draws listeners in with layered 'tribal' beats and funky guitar licks which are no doubt far more energetic than the tiny town in Greenland the song is named after.
Glamour Puss and lead single Fade Like A Shadow have a contagiously hyper vibe. You'd need to have feet of lead to be able to resist getting up and dancing.
Golden Frames is one of the few bluesy, folky tracks here, although Tunstall first made her name with this sort of sound. The guitar-heavy song is poetically vague, but seems to hint at alien abduction. (Still A) Weirdo, the second single, captures the singer's quirkiness.
With experiments in styles and sounds, Tiger Suit is definitely a step in a new direction for Tunstall - even established fans will find much to enjoy.
