This group exhibition organised by the Society for Experimental Cultural Production takes a look at the phenomenon of border crossing between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, using shipping containers as the artistic medium.

'You can't get much more literal about shipping than a shipping container, right?' says Laoban Soundsystem sound artist Jon Phillips, from Beijing, who thinks the relationship between the two cities is 'optimised for business'.

Created by Phillips and collaborator Matt Hope, The Infinite Baffle turns an empty shipping container into a chamber of sound. 'The front baffle we are manufacturing has 32 speakers, and the empty space will resonate from that sound. The doors are movable so we can shape where the sound will project out of the front entrance of the container,' says Phillips, who is among the eight participating collectives.

The exhibition also features works such as Warren Leung Chi-wo's photographs of converted fish farm homes in the northern New Territories (above), images taken by Jin Jiangbo of the Shanghai Expo construction site, Nadim Abbas' installation of mirrors and windows, and Li Jinghu's water- and salt-filled container. To be held at various industrial areas in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, the mobile show explores issues ranging from the engineering of sound, the psychology of architecture, fung shui and space, to the biopolitics of identity.
