You could just sing along, of course, like every other member of the audience - or you could go one better when Janet Jackson brings her Janet Number Ones tour to our shores, on February 14.
Pure Fitness is offering dance workshops on the weekend of February 12 and 13, to warm fans up for the concert and teach them how to move like the pop star.
Cristo Zablah (below), who describes Jackson as his 'inspiration growing up as a dancer', will lead the classes. Born to a dancer and an athlete, Zablah is head choreographer for the Sands and Venetian casinos in Macau. Like Jackson, he dances a wide range of styles: jazz, funk, hip hop, contemporary and Latin styles, such as salsa, merengue, cha cha and tango.
Themed 'old-school Janet', the workshop on February 12 will pay tribute to her early career. Zablah will be teaching Jackson's classic moves for tunes such as Control, Nasty and What Have You Done For Me Lately?, from Control (1986), her first album to top the Billboard charts.
On February 13, the 'new-school Janet' workshop will focus on the pop star's more recent works, such as If (1993) and Together Again (1997), and will feature the sexier and sultrier dances that define the Jackson of today. Wardrobe malfunctions will be tolerated - probably.
Both sessions will be held between 12.30pm and 2pm at Pure Fitness (IFC Mall, Central). Participants need not be members of the gym chain. Enrol in one workshop for HK$200 or both for HK$300. There's a limit of 60 participants per workshop, which are available on a first-come-first-served basis. Advance booking is required.
