Dirt freak shows he can handle grass

Trainer Me Tsui Yu-sak was probably less surprised than many but more pleased about it than most when My Whisky cast off his tag as strictly a dirt specialist to win the Class Three Bulkeley Handicap (1,400m) yesterday. In 14 all-weather outings, his record read two victories and four placings. In 13 previous attempts locally on the firmer Sha Tin turf, My Whisky (Keith Yeung Ming-lun) had been placed just once, but he had four turf wins in Australia before arriving. 'When he was in Class Four last season, My Whisky did run a close second on the turf and I think that he became an improved horse after that race,' said Tsui, who landed a double after winning with New Leader in the second. 'Today, he had the light weight, the perfect box-seat position and the right pace. It gives him some more options now for programming his races, anyway.'
